Most meetings in the workplace, whether they be corporate, nonprofit or other, prioritize productivity and measurable outcomes, often neglecting the importance of human connection and authenticity. However, creating space for genuine interaction and meaningful check-ins can greatly enhance the overall experience and effectiveness of meetings. It allows individuals to bring their whole selves into the conversation and fosters a supportive and collaborative environment. In this short blog, we explore the power of incorporating authentic connection into meetings and the positive impact it can have on relationships and team dynamics.

In our fast-paced lives, it's important to create space for each person to bring their voice and express how they're feeling in the moment. Whether you have ample time or are in a hurry, taking a moment to check in with yourself and others can be incredibly valuable.

The Power of Grounding & Checking-In

Often, the check-in is the most important part of a meeting. It allows us to ground ourselves, cultivate gratitude, and be present in the moment. Here are some steps you can take to facilitate a meaningful check-in:

  1. Ground Yourself: Take a moment to center yourself in gratitude and purpose. Remember, gratitude is a posture that isn't dependent on external factors.
  2. Greet Everyone: Welcome each person, celebrate their presence, and acknowledge what emotions or feelings they may be holding.
  3. Breathe Together: Take a collective deep breath in and out, allowing everyone to sync their breath and find a sense of calm.
  4. Finish the Line: Encourage each person to share what they're grateful for or how they're feeling at that moment. They can complete the sentence "Right now, I'm feeling..."
  5. Movement: Invite everyone to stretch, dance, or shake out any stagnant energy. Movement is a great way to connect with the body and enhance the breathing experience.
  6. Meditation: Offer a guided meditation, allowing participants to close their eyes or keep them open while envisioning their intentions.
  7. Song: Bringing music into the space before a meeting can set a tone and create a sense of harmony and relaxation among the participants. Songs can be played as an introduction, sung by an individual or together for greater connection.
  8. Acknowledgement, Intention, or Prayer: Respectfully acknowledge the beliefs and practices of each individual by closing the check-in in a way that feels authentic and meaningful to you and your group.

By creating this space for authenticity and connection, we foster an environment where individuals can share from their hearts and minds. So, whether you have a few minutes or an hour, remember the power of a check-in and the impact it can have on building relationships and cultivating a supportive community.

Let's take the time to truly connect and be present with ourselves and others.
